Rauner vetoes fair arbitration bill

After walking away from negotiations, the governor seeks to impose his demands on state public service workers by blocking House Bill 580, legislation that provides a responsible path to a fair contract for all state employees.

SB 16, a bill to cut the pensions of active employees in the SERS and SURS pension systems, was rushed to a vote on the Senate floor on Feb. 28. While it failed to pass, it was put on postponed consideration and will likely be called again soon.
