Forget the phony ad; working people know Rauner is wrong

After four years of failure, Bruce Rauner is getting desperate. He wants another term as governor, but with no accomplishments to run on, he has to rely on falsehoods.

The latest untruth from the Rauner campaign is a misleading commercial that features Ronald Wilson, identified as an AFSCME local union leader, criticizing Rauner’s opponent, JB Pritzker.

In reality, the members of AFSCME Local 993 at Vandalia Correctional Center forced Wilson to resign nearly a decade ago, after he’d served just seven months as local union president.

More important, the current president of AFSCME Local 993, Tim Worker—a correctional lieutenant and a lifelong Republican, strongly opposes Rauner and supports Pritzker.

“We’ve been through four years of Rauner, and we know he’s wrong for working people,” Worker says. “Since Day One he tried to weaken our union, cut our pay and slash our pensions, while doing nothing to make our jobs safer.

“I’ve worked for 20 years in the prison, and I know how important it is to have leaders who will listen to us,” Worker added. “I’ve met JB Pritzker. He’s a good guy, he’s for working-class people and I think he’ll work with us in AFSCME.”
