Chicago city workers ratify new contract
Voting Oct. 3 at worksites citywide, AFSCME members overwhelmingly ratified a new union contract with the city of Chicago.
The contract is the product of more than a year of negotiations by the AFSCME Bargaining Committee, including representatives from each of the six AFSCME local unions that represent Chicago city employees.
Led by AFSCME Council 31 Deputy Director Mike Newman, the committee persevered in a difficult fiscal climate, securing a contract that ensures continued access to high-quality affordable health care and builds on past economic gains.
This agreement was only possible thanks to the bargaining committee’s unity and resolve, backed by the solidarity and support of AFSCME members throughout city government.
