Workplace safety bill passes Senate and House

On May 25, Senate Bill 3075—workplace safety legislation—passed the Illinois House by a vote of 105-0-0. It passed the Senate on April 23 by a vote of 45-0-0. The bill now returns to the Senate for concurrence.

Workplace safety is a crucial issue, yet too many state agencies see no urgency to address the growing problem of assaults on employees. That’s why AFSCME brought the issue to the General Assembly.

The AFSCME-backed bill—sponsored by Sen. Michael Hastings and Rep. Michael Halpin—would require DCFS, DHS, DOC and DJJ to track instances of violence against staff and report all such incidents to the General Assembly to heighten awareness and accountability.
